Description

These Romanian 5.56×45 AK Custom Md. 63 rifles begin with authentic Romanian military rifle kits, sourced overseas by Arms of America. Each rifle is expertly hand-built by Rifle Dynamics, preserving its battlefield heritage with the original military finish retained from service.

No compromises were made in performance. Each build features a premium Hitman Industries 5.56 nitride barrel threaded 1/2x28 for exceptional durability and accuracy. The LBE G3 U.S. fire control group, Polish-imported AK receiver finished by Childers Guns, Forged WBP 5.56 Core Components, and U.S.-made Beryl style muzzle brake ensure both top-tier reliability and full 922R compliance. A factory-installed side rail makes mounting optics fast and secure.

The result is a rifle that blends authentic military history with modern upgrades, capturing the rugged reliability of the legendary AKM platform in a hard-hitting 5.56 NATO configuration.

Rifle Finish:
Receivers and parts are all left in their original finish! Scuffs and finish wear will be visible. If you would like a matched battlefield look for the receiver and barrel, or a completely refinished rifle with fresh hot bluing, we offer these services as add-ons.

Development and Production

In the early 1960s, Romania, a Warsaw Pact member, sought to produce its own version of the Soviet AKM (a modernized AK-47 with stamped steel construction).
Production began at Romarm’s Fabrica de Arme Cugir (Cugir Arms Factory), one of Romania’s oldest weapons manufacturers.
The rifle was designated PM md. 63 (Pistol Mitralieră model 1963), with "PM" meaning "machine pistol" in Romanian military nomenclature, similar to the Soviet designation.

Design Features

The MD-63 closely follows the AKM design but includes a few distinct Romanian characteristics:
- Vertical wooden foregrip: Introduced in the late 60's. One of its most recognizable features, designed to improve weapon control during full-auto fire.
- Stamped steel receiver imported from Poland & finished by Childers Guns: Like the Soviet AKM, making it lighter than the original milled AK-47.
- Nitride barrel threaded 1/2x28 1:7 Twist: Provides durability and resistance to corrosion.

Military Service and Global Use

The MD-63 became the standard-issue rifle of the Romanian military and remained in service for decades.
During the Cold War, Romania exported these rifles extensively, especially to Middle Eastern and African nations, as well as guerrilla and insurgent groups.
Many MD-63s surfaced in conflicts such as the Iran-Iraq War, Lebanese Civil War, and various African and Middle Eastern conflicts.
