These VZ61 builds feature excellent+ condition original Czech parts kits with original barrels, professionally built on a new Tortort U.S.-made receiver. The result is a highly collectible, historically faithful VZ61-style firearm that preserves the look, feel, and character of the original Czech design while using a high quality machined U.S.-manufactured receiver.

Receiver Options

Gen 1 Tortort Receiver Build

Our standard configuration uses a new U.S.-manufactured Tortort Gen 1 receiver. This is an excellent option for customers who want a high-quality VZ61 build using original Czech components and a new U.S.-made receiver.

Gen 2 Tortort Receiver Build – Premium Historical Configuration

Our premium Gen 2 receiver option is designed for customers who want a cleaner and more historically accurate presentation.

The Gen 2 option includes:

• Custom serial number matching the original Czech parts kit
• Company/manufacturer information placed on the bottom side of the receiver
• Extra rate reducer pocket machining to retain the historically accurate functionality and feel of the original design
• Premium collector-style receiver layout

Please note: Arms of America’s required company/manufacturer engraving will still need to be engraved on the side of the Gen 2 receiver in accordance with applicable marking requirements.

Barrel Options

Original Czech Barrel – Standard Configuration

The standard build uses the original Czech VZ61 barrel included with the excellent+ condition imported parts kit.

This is the best option for customers who want the most original-style configuration possible.

Original Czech Barrel Optional 1/2x28 Threading

Customers may select optional 1/2x28 threading on the original Czech barrel.

Please note: the original VZ61 barrel has limited material available for threading and may not have enough shoulder/material to meet ideal suppressor-threading gunsmith specifications. This option is offered for customers who want the original barrel threaded, but customers seeking a better suppressor-ready configuration should consider one of the new U.S.-made threaded barrel options.

New USA 4.5" Nitride Threaded Barrel – 1/2x28

This option upgrades the build to a new U.S.-made 4.5" nitride barrel that is pre-threaded 1/2x28.

This barrel is designed with enough material to better support suppressor use compared to threading the original barrel. This is the recommended option for customers who want a compact threaded setup with proper material for suppressor compatibility.

New USA 5.5" Extended Nitride Threaded Barrel – 1/2x28

This option upgrades the build to a new U.S.-made 5.5" extended nitride barrel threaded 1/2x28.

The extended barrel is designed to accept a suppressor while still allowing the stock to fold. This is an excellent option for customers who want a suppressor-ready configuration while retaining the classic folding-stock functionality when configured as an SBR.

Finish Options

Original Black Finish – Standard

If no finish upgrade is selected, the firearm will come in black with the original-style finish. This keeps the build close to the original surplus appearance and preserves the character of the imported Czech components.

Complete Hot Bluing Upgrade – Optional

Customers may select an optional complete hot bluing upgrade for a refined, premium finish.

This is a great option for customers looking for a cleaner, more uniform, collector-grade appearance while maintaining the classic look of the VZ61.

Optional SBR Upgrade

Customers may select an optional SBR upgrade package.

The SBR upgrade includes:

• Installation of the original-style folding stock
• Configuration as a Short-Barreled Rifle
• 922(r) compliance work
• U.S.-made receiver
• U.S.-made floor plate
• U.S.-made follower

This option is intended for customers who want the classic stocked VZ61 configuration.

All NFA rules, transfer requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local laws apply. SBR configurations require proper approval and transfer through the appropriate legal process before possession where applicable. Customers are responsible for ensuring legality in their state and jurisdiction.

Description

The VZ61 is one of the most recognizable compact firearm designs of the Cold War era. Originally developed in Czechoslovakia, the VZ61 became known for its unique profile, compact size, and distinctive mechanical layout. These builds bring that classic design back to life using original Czech imported components in excellent+ condition, including the original barrel.

Each build is completed using a new U.S.-manufactured Tortort receiver, giving customers a quality modern receiver foundation while retaining the authenticity of the original Czech parts. The original surplus components show the character and quality expected from genuine military-production Czech parts, with the added benefit of being in excellent+ overall condition.

For customers wanting the most authentic and premium option, the Gen 2 Tortort receiver upgrade offers a custom matching serial number, bottom-side company information, and additional machining for the original-style rate reducer pocket. This gives the firearm a cleaner, more historically accurate collector appearance while preserving the classic VZ61 feel.

Condition

These are built from excellent+ condition original Czech imported VZ61 kits. As with all surplus parts, minor handling marks, finish variation, or storage wear may be present, but these kits are among the nicer examples available.
